Kalamazoo County, MI:
Just moments ago, there was a shooting at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington, D.C. The President and First Lady were rushed off stage by Secret Service, and they are now safe back at the White House. The gunman is reportedly in custody. A law enforcement officer was injured.
I condemn this act of violence. This is another attack on the President and our Democracy. The President survived the attack on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania. But Charlie Kirk was assassinated because of his faith and defense of this country. The vitriol and hateful rhetoric from the left has even been directed at the Kalamazoo Republican Party Office and myself. This must end now. Political differences should never lead to violence.
