Michigan made a huge mistake last November, electing Elissa Slotkin as our U.S. Senator, replacing Debbie Stabenow, who retired. During the 2024 election, President Donald Trump received 2,816,636 votes here in Michigan. Slotkin defeated Republican Mike Rogers 2,712,686 to 2,693,680. The people who voted for President Trump should have voted for Rogers as well. If they had, things in Washington might be very different.
We were sold a bill of goods during the campaign, with people touting Slotkin as a moderate democrat, who works across the aisle to achieve bipartisan legislation.
But in reality, she is hyper-partisan, voting in lockstep with the democrat mandate to oppose President Trump at every turn. She has voted no on most of the President’s nominations for various Cabinet positions. She voted no on the Big Beautiful Bill. And she repeatedly voted for the Shumer Shutdown, keeping the government closed for a record 43 days.
Now Slotkin, along with several other democrat members of congress, have gone too far releasing a video, calling on our military and members of the intelligence community, to refuse orders from their Commander in Chief.
This video does nothing but stoke the flames of division. Slotkin likes to tout that she’s a former member of the CIA. As such, she should know better. She should know that our military and intelligence agents work in dangerous situations. They work in a command structure that requires soldiers and officers to follow chain of command. Refusing an order outright could put our soldiers in danger and risk national security. This political stunt has real world ramifications.
Slotkin claims she did this out of concern for our miliary. But where was her concern for them when she voted to shut down the government, and our military and federal agents weren’t getting paid? She didn’t seem very worried then. And now she admits, the President hasn’t issued any illegal orders.
So what is she trying to do? Slotin was sent to Washinton to work for us, not to work against our duly elected President. Slotkin is failing Michigan. The shutdown left a lot of Michigan families struggling to make ends meet. And now this video potentially can put our soldiers and intelligence officials in danger.
I call on Slotkin to resign as Senator, and the Michigan Republican Party should do the same. Michigan deserves better.
