February 2014 KGOP Chairman’s Blog
When I was asked to consider running to be the Chairman of the Republican Party of Kalamazoo County (KGOP), I was awed by the opportunity. At the time we were coming from a rough year that had been preceded by a couple of difficult election cycles. While we were able to hold on to our House and Senate seats, we experienced some difficultly at the local level. Members were feeling frustrated and some felt locked out of the process.
I promised myself (and I shared the same with you) that I would do what we could to rebuild our party. To that end, I’ve asked our Executive Committee to push their respective boundaries, to be creative, and to be transparent and trusting with each other and our members. I think the results of this are positive.
In the 13 months that I’ve been chair, our Party has reopened an office by working with the Michigan Republican Party (MRP). We have increased in our fundraising efforts through great Lincoln Tribute Dinners and diversifying our revenue base to be more than just dues driven. We have more people involved in our standing committees, improving our work process from the past and preparing us for the future.
At our Lincoln Tribute Event, we will see another sign of this resurgence, this reinvention. We have a new web presence, one that reflects the changing technology and times that we now wage our campaigns in.
We can’t stop now with just a website and an increased social media push. We must take this to the doors of our neighbors and our friends. We are in the search for both candidates and precinct delegates as we head into the 2014 election. The filing deadline has been moved up earlier to April 22nd and I urge all of you who have a fire your belly, put your name forth. If you’re interested in serving as a public official, if you’re interested in helping someone win an election, step up the plate and be a part of what is going to be a great year.
I am honored to be your Chairman. Thank you for your continuing support of the KGOP!
Very Sincerely Yours,
Republican Party of Kalamazoo County
