By State Rep. David Maturen

It is a great honor to represent the 90,000 ± citizens of Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties in the State House.  I am very pleased to have received appointments to the committees that I requested.  I am the Vice Chair of Tax Policy and a member of the Energy Policy, Transportation and Infrastructure and Local Government Committees.  Legislation emanating from them will be critical to keeping our state on the continued path of economic recovery.

The legislative session has started off in an orderly fashion enabling new members to get up to speed on issues and absorb the process involved in legislation and constituent service.  Discussions within our caucus, under the leadership of Speaker Cotter, have been very informative on issues that face our state and a place for frank discussion, as well as a venue for advice for the freshmen class on a variety of issues.

I am very fortunate to have in my office two ladies with experience at the Capitol with Sherry Sofia (who many of you know when she worked for Tom George in the House and Senate) and Jodi Clark (from Rep. Foster’s office) assisting with legislation and constituent relations.

I am pleased to be working with committed state legislators in the two-county District I represent that straddles the 3rd and 6th Congressional Districts.  Senators O’Brien and Nofs and Representatives Bizon, Iden and Nesbitt are working diligently on issues that affect the future of our state.

Please feel free to contact my office regarding any issues that you may have.
