Resolution to Urge State Senator Sean McCann to Pass the Budget<\/strong> \u00a0and Avoid a Government Shutdown<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whereas,<\/strong> State Senator Sean McCann (D-Kalamazoo) is a senior member of the state Senate, wields influence among his fellow Democrats and should urge the upper chamber to negotiate a state budget in good faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whereas,<\/strong> State Senator McCann is currently playing partisan politics with the state budget, avoiding meaningful negotiations with the State House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whereas,<\/strong> State Senator McCann and his fellow Democrats in the State Senate are overtly disregarding Governor Gretchen Whitmer\u2019s urging, a member of their own party, to present a budget for the roads and negotiate a full state budget for the next fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whereas,<\/strong> State Senator McCann, a career politician who is currently campaigning for a political office in Washington, D.C., is risking a government shutdown here in Michigan, delaying payments to our schools and using state employees as pawns in this game of political chicken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whereas,<\/strong> State Senator McCann is willfully ignoring his fiduciary responsibility as an elected official to represent the best interests of all his constituents, both Democrat and Republican, here in Kalamazoo.  Rather instead, he is choosing to capitulate to the Democrat party and play partisan games with the state\u2019s economy and the livelihood of our residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved,<\/strong> the Kalamazoo County Republican Party formally urges State Senator Sean McCann, a senior member of the upper chamber of the State Legislature, to work with his fellow Senators to take a seat at the bargaining table, and negotiate in good faith, a state budget before the deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be It Further Resolved,<\/strong> the Kalamazoo County Republican Party urges State Senator Sean McCann to stop the political games that will hurt this state\u2019s economy, our children in schools across Michigan and penalize state employees by forcing unnecessary layoffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As adopted by the Kalamazoo County Republican Party on September 23rd, 2025.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
