{"id":2782,"date":"2025-03-14T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-14T14:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kgop.org\/?p=2782"},"modified":"2025-03-14T10:22:39","modified_gmt":"2025-03-14T14:22:39","slug":"it-takes-a-village","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kgop.org\/?p=2782","title":{"rendered":"It Takes a Village"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We\u2019ve all heard the phrase \u201cIt takes a village\u201d to raise a child.&nbsp; It\u2019s a great sentiment for families to rely on neighbors to help guide their children.&nbsp; It\u2019s also a great strategy for Republicans to have in order to affect meaningful change in our local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Democrats are very effective in mobilizing their members to be part of the process of crafting left-leaning policies.&nbsp; We need to beat them at their own game.&nbsp; You don\u2019t have to run for a political office to shape the policy here in Michigan.&nbsp; There are plenty of ways for you to step up and get involved.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every local municipality has various boards and commissions with appointed members, deciding how your tax dollars are raised and spent.&nbsp; From the planning commission and capital improvements committee to the assessment board of review and the community parks committee.&nbsp; They all need residents to apply to be on a board or committee.&nbsp; Some of these appointed positions are even paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you looking for a way to make a difference with a smaller time commitment?&nbsp; There are plenty of volunteer positions available in your community.&nbsp; Check in with your local library, your child\u2019s school or the area community college to see what type of volunteer positions are available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every election, cities and counties need numerous poll workers and watchers, especially now that Michigan has implemented nine days of early voting.&nbsp; Apply with your local clerk to become an election inspector, which is a paid position and pretty easy work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being engaged in your local community doesn\u2019t mean you have to join a board or committee.\u00a0 Attend your city council meetings to stay informed about how they\u2019re spending your tax dollars.\u00a0 Most U.S. and state senators and representatives occasionally host town halls, coffee hours and other community engagement opportunities.\u00a0 Be sure to attend those events, ask questions and sign up for your representative\u2019s community newsletter to see what policies are coming up for a vote.
