Former U.S. Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) will be the keynote speaker for the 2019 Lincoln Tribute Dinner, sponsored by the Kalamazoo County Republican Party. “We are honored to have Jason Chaffetz speak here in Kalamazoo,” said KGOP Chairman David Eyke. “He has a long history of conservative Republican activism and is an intelligent and influential political voice on the national stage.” Chaffetz served as the U.S. Representative for Utah’s 3rd congressional district from 2009 until his retirement in 2017. He chaired the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform from 2015 until 2017. Since that time, he as been a political analyst at Fox News.

Chaffetz commented recently on the Democratic debates held in Detroit, that the GOP is looking better than ever for the 2020 race. “I don’t see anyone out there that comes close to beating Donald Trump. I think Donald Trump is stronger politically than he has ever been,” the former chairman of the U.S. House Oversight Committee Chaffetz, R-Utah, told “Fox & Friends” Wednesday morning.

“Michigan will be the battleground state for the 2020 election cycle,” Eyke added. “And Kalamazoo will be an important part of Michigan’s success. Having Jason Chaffetz recognize how critical Kalamazoo County is by agreeing to come here is huge!”

Chaffetz came to prominence in 2015 for his extensive investigations into Hillary Clinton. He rescinded his endorsement of Donald Trump in early October 2016 but expressed his intent to vote for him three weeks later. Having investigated Hillary Clinton and the Obama administration extensively, Chaffetz drew criticism after the 2016 election for declining to investigate certain potential conflicts of interest relating to President Donald J. Trump, and that of other individuals involved in his 2016 presidential campaign and subsequent presidential administration.
